If ever there's a mantra (or a cop-out depending on your point-of-view, LOL, kidding, kidding, geez) in marketing, it's that you have to test, test, test.

Want to know whether this headline or that would fare better? Why not just ask Mike Filsaime (or some other big guru of your choosing), right? WRONG!

Even as the guys at Keith Wellman's LiveStream event (recording here) the other day, including Matt Bacak, were reporting some counter-intuitive results, they warned against jumping to any conclusions in your niche, with your product, etc., etc..

You have to test. Yet, who can deny the sheer beauty of a well-designed "Belcher Button," said to be the best converting button in internet marketing? Whether it still works quite as well given its over-exposure, we can't seem to get enough of it.

Made that bad-boy myself. Well, kinda. Got a little help from this new graphics tool, but it's highly customizable, and I had fun creating it.

There's a new link shortening service hitting the scene! Are you excited?! ;)

I know... it feels like yet another tinyurl or budurl clone makes its debut every day claiming a new array of bells and whistles. First it was aliasing, then tracking, then cloaking, and so on. (All of which prompted me to write the definitive guide for getting the most of these tools, while not losing your own branding.)

Well, if that's the case, this one's making so much noise you'd think a damn freight train were barreling down on you! They can have their little chimes, this one's a veritable xylophone. (LOL, I crack myself up.) The slogan says it all:

Scrnch.Me is the latest from the man who brought you RAP Member Plus, the membership solution for Rapid Action Profits, Bill Ortell.

Not only does his service have everything the rest of field has—and so much more they never even dreamed—it's a fantastic look into the operation of a RAP-driven membership site from the author of the addon himself!

For that alone, if nothing else, I encourage you to poke around, take note of the various member levels (yes, including free), how registration and login works, watch the videos, etc.. I know you'll be impressed because this fellow geek certainly is.

I'm really excited about this, for my readers sake. I've long recommended Rapid Action Profits (RAP) for managing your entire sales process, including OTOs, affiliate program, split testing, etc..

In the almost two years since it's release (as of this writing), it's become the all-in-one system of many big name internet marketers, like Willie Crawford.

And, the support forum is second-to-none. I'm in there daily, joining the many regulars helping people out, brainstorming ideas, and reviewing one another's sites. A great group of people and a great script, which I'm proud to say I've helped expand by way of my Addons. (That's a great feature of RAP right there, its extensibility through developer Addons, just as with WordPress plugins).

Well, you can tell I'm a fan and could go on and on. That's why I'm delighted that Sid has put together a payment plan that makes it quite affordable for anyone to get in on the action (pun intended). If you didn't think it was in the budget before, I encourage you to take another look now.

See you on (or is it in? or either? anyway, LOL...) the forums!

Want to know the most-clicked link on my blog? I can tell you it's certainly not the ads, few as they are, nor the signup for the free blogging report. Heck, it's not even the Tools link leading to my very own creations, much as I'd like that to be the case.

No, it's THIS ONE. Actually, it's cousin at the bottom of every page. And, that's great. I wouldn't have put it there if I wasn't exceedingly happy with their hosting service.

Before I went with InMotion Hosting, I had another that was just dreadful. And, I thought I'd chosen carefully too, as they were, at the time, listed among several Top-10 lists, including those kept by some reputable web monoliths like Yahoo!

I don't want to name names (see last post), but my main gripe was an ostensibly flaky DNS that bogged down a niche blog of mine so badly (slow load times and timeouts), I watched its page rank (PR) drop from 4 to 2 in a month's time! Ouch. Sure, they had 24-hour support that I used many a time at 2 AM, but it was never resolved over the phone.

Finally, I took the plunge and switched hosting companies, and I've never looked back. Granted it takes a while for the name server switch to propagate around the internet, but the 24-48 hours was far less harmful than continuing to cross my fingers for their improvement. (Speaking of propagation, it's an interesting phenomenon to watch as your friend may be able to see your site, while you cannot yet. Or worse, vice-versa.)

So, here's the deal. Don't just click and surf away thinking it's a generic footer. Instead, know that I put it there and highly recommend In Motion Hosting.

Aside from 24-hour support that actually does what the department name implies, they also have good pricing on domain names. Often even less than GoDaddy, depending on the deal du jour. By the way, this other company recently charged me 3x as much for a couple stragglers I failed to move in time!

What I really like is how you can start out with your basic hosting and grow with them. In the few years I've been with them, they upgraded PHP and MySQL for me (a suggestion at which my previous host balked) and, more recently, I even moved to a virtual private server (VPS). There's another step yet, namely, a dedicated server, but I'm nowhere near needing that power!

So, seriously, if you're looking for quality web hosting, you've found it. Don't just click—sign the hell up! LOL. (Sorry, got a little excited there.)

The other day on Twitter, @RobertHill tweeted a link to the following story on AOL Small Business regarding a lawsuit brought against a blogger.

It reminded me that I had a similar article queued up in my blog drafts. This one may be even scarier for affiliate marketers when it comes to potential liability.

I see also Alan Bechtold has blogged about the pervasiveness and persistence of our online communications. A hastily crafted tweet written in frustration or misunderstanding can have you regretting it over and over as its replayed in cyberspace with each new search hit.

Having recently read the excellent Launch Your Own Affiliate Review Site Monopoly by fellow software developer and recognized expert on the topic, Stephen Carter, I was curious to hear what he had to say about the issue. I wrote him and he kindly provided the following commentary.

I think the average blogger, or online reviewer, is more likely to get struck by a car than get sued for anything they say online. But if you stick your neck out and say that some business is a scam, instead of saying that you feel like you got scammed by that business (big difference) then you make yourself liable for your comments.

Libel laws protect businesses and people from having damaging non factual information about them spread around. So to cover yourself, just don't assert anything you cannot prove. You can always get your message across if you have had a bad experience. You just have to frame it as an opinion. I don't think you can be sued for having an opinion, though you can still reap a lot of bad juju for announcing ideas that others find offensive.

Of course, that's the layman's approach to this issue. Lawyers always have the last word.

Like I said, I really respect Stephen, and encourage you to check out his thorough and cogent book, which also includes his review site software.

I'm a little late in reviewing this product. Indeed, in just under two days as of this writing, the price is due to increase. So, if you haven't checked it out yet, you'll want to hurry. And, if you're reading this past the deadline, I guess you can take a slower jaunt over to his page.

(Similarly, the Info Riches course, about which I have a video in a previous post, is going up dramatically in some eighteen hours or so! Ultimately, I wussed out on buying it myself, so I can only comment on the pre-launch Future of Internet Marketing interviews, which I've found a great way to put voices and personalities to the names.)

Anyway, maybe you're wondering what the heck a devoted RAPateer, as we like to call ourselves, is doing thinking about Clickbank. Well, I've long been considering also offering products there too in order to capture a larger affiliate audience (though I believe the number of people promoting RAP products will continue to grow and may increase exponentially in the near future with new tools like my Affiliate Cookie WordPress Plugin).

But, there's more to Chris Freville's Clickbank Inner Circle than his strongly advocating you become a CB publisher. It's also about how to approach the big names for joint ventures, whether there really is an inner circle, and all the other whats and hows of affiliate marketing.

I'm still working my way through all the PDFs, but I've watched the videos and listened to the audios. In particular, I burned the Alex Goad interview to CD, and it's received several playings in the car now. There are some quality gems in that one for sure.

I was going to put SureFireWealth's Instant Video Empire in that list too, but it looks like their deal may have ended.
A word of warning: While I'm sure they've split-tested it, I'm no fan of the 'ole autoplay video. Most, if not all, these guys use them though, so turn down your speakers until you can be sure the volume's right.

Michael Rasmussen's new Get More Buyers product has launched today, and the email flood has begun. If they learned from him, these marketers will receive plump affiliate checks from their promotional efforts.

Unfortunately, in most cases, those "efforts" are hardly deserving of the appellation; a good 80% (there's that Pareto Principle again) are just copy-and-paste emails from the product owner. Of course, I'm not speaking only of this launch; it's standard practice.

Meanwhile, those of us, like myself, who actually take the time to review all the materials and offer honest evaluations in our own words, suffer under the stampede. I sent a single mail yesterday before the frenzy and after viewing all the videos.

The results? Not a single sale. Reminds me of the dating scene as a young(er) adult! That's what I get for building my list from giveaway events (I kid the frugal people on my list as I was similarly so). Anyway, enough of the sour grapes. What did I think?

Well, if you're a beginning marketer, the first 13 videos contain a ton of valuable teachings. And, even if you've heard all his recommendations for building a list of buyers before, the review and implementation details are worthy of careful study. I've watched them through twice as of this writing.

In addition, he's included three advanced videos that are just that — advanced. Finally, everything's reiterated in a fairly dense 144-page, step-by-step PDF.
